Recommendation for Keene Surface Design - 07-12-2023 -->
The Keene Town Square, historically called the Keene Commons, will be re-constructed as part of a project to replace the 100-year-old underground infrastructure. While it is universally agreed this project is necessary for the city, replacing the surface constructs, (roadways, sidewalks, etc.) there are can be several designs. The timing of this project is critical to local businesses and requires their input to the implementation planning is addressed. The current road configuration, with upgrades, was basically ignored as an option by the design consultant firm. The web site www.keenesquare.org is provided to present a design option which keeps the New England charm of Keene while providing common sense and effective access for residents, visitors, and businesses. The Keene Town Square, historically called the Keene Commons, will be re-constructed as part of a project to replace the 100-year-old underground infrastructure. Only one alternative is documented by the city and being presented to the public. The Mayor, George Hansel, stated there was an alternate solution in his introduction at the last public meeting. The solution he referred to was the existing solution without modifications. The design proposed on this site is based on the existing configuration and maintains the integrity of the current Central Park, while enhancing the functionality.
The solution presented by this site, www.keenesquare.org must be provided with equal representation and consideration, to allow citizens to see the comparisons.
